What is CSQ Funded Training?

CSQ – short for Construction Skills Queensland; assists builders, tradespeople and construction workers in gaining access to the latest industry-recognised training and trade qualifications. As an industry-funded body, CSQ supports in skilling Queensland’s building and construction industry by subsidising (funding) the cost of short courses and full Qualifications for eligible workers.

CSQ is a not-for-profit, industry-funded body. As part of the Building and Construction Industry Training Levy (the levy), CSQ subsidises training costs to support workers, apprentices, trainees and career seekers in the building and construction industry to up-skill and obtain formal qualifications.

CSQ has a strict level of standard and expectations of their RTO partners only working with training organisations that deliver expert industry training. FTA is proud to be an official CSQ Training Provider.

About

The Construction Skills Queensland Higher Qualification Program is targeted towards existing workings in the building and civil construction industry, looking to advance their career through further education. The Higher Qualification Program funding will contribute towards the fees of Certificate IV through to Advanced Diploma level training. *

This program is part of CSQ’s commitment to advancing the skills of the building and civil construction workforce.

For the 2022/24 contract Training must be completed prior to 30/4/2025

For the 2024/25 contract Training must be completed prior to 28/2/2026

Eligibility Criteria for Higher Qualification Program

Under the 2024/25 CSQ Contract, the following eligibility criteria applies:

Higher Qualifications – Building & Civil

An eligible worker is someone who is an employee or self-employed worker substantially engaged in the following industry priorities.

One the Queensland building and construction industry doing.

  • Construction, significant renovations and extension of residential and commercial buildings.
  • Installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades. Electrical, plumbing, flooring, etc.
  • Works on a CSQ-designated major project – Construction of infrastructure.

The Queensland civil construction industry doing.

  • Land development and site preparation for the purpose of construction.
  • Works for civil infrastructure.
  • Works on a CSQ-designated major project – Construction of infrastructure.

Note: for this Program, an Eligible Worker can include relevant clerical, administration and professional staff whose Employer is part of the Building and Construction Industry.

AND
(b) if an Apprentice or Trainee, Participants must have completed at least 50% of their Registered Training Plan for their Apprenticeship or Traineeship.
AND MUST NOT BE:
(c) an Employee of an Authority (Employees of Local Councils are acceptable);
(d) currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program (school-based Apprentices or Trainees are acceptable);
(e) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO;
(f) funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program;
(g) those Participants seeking a Verification of Competency (or Determination of Competency) services under this Agreement

Skills Assessment & Gap Training

About

The Skills Assessment & Gap Training Program (SAGT) is an initiative of CSQ giving existing workers – or return-to-worker personnel –  in the building and civil construction industry a chance to turn their experience into a formal qualification.

The SAGT program is designed to help turn your existing experience into a formal qualification. The contract is for students currently working in the industry or looking to re-enter. The program connects you to training and assessment services to identify the skills you already have and provide gap training so you can attain the nationally recognised qualification.

We accepting new enrolments for the SAGT funding with study to commence 1st October 2024.

Skills Assessment and Gap Training (SAGT): Building & Civil

  • This funding is intended to provide a pathway for experienced participants to gain an initial qualification.
  • Eligible Participants can only undertake 1 Skills Assessment and Gap Training qualification in total across the Program (which includes both Building and Civil).
  • Participants must not be undertaking a CSQ Higher Qualification program in the same contract term.
  • For the 2022/24 contract training must be completed before 30/9/2024.
  • For the 2024/25 contract training must be completed before 30/9/2025.

SAGT process will identify skills that you already have and provide the gap training you need to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Eligibility Criteria for SAGT

Under the 2024/25 CSQ Contract, the following eligibility criteria applies:

Skills and Gap Training (SAGT) – Building & Civil
Eligible Participant means:
(a) a Participant who has the right to work in Australia and is an Eligible Worker or Unemployed Eligible Worker in Queensland.
AND MUST:
(b) be able to demonstrate RPL experience in seventy percent (70%) or more competencies required to complete the full Qualification.
AND MUST NOT:
(c) be an Apprentice or Trainee;
(d) through direct credit, achieve more than fifty percent (50%) of the minimum number of units required to complete the Qualification
(e) be an Employee of an Authority (Employees of Local Councils are acceptable);
(f) be currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program
(g) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO;
(h) be funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program;
(i) be those Participants seeking a Verification of Competency (or Determination of Competency) services under this Agreement

As a pathway RTO, it is critical that we can map a clear progression pathway for the next generation of Tradespeople.

FAQ

How does the SAGT program work?

Once the contribution fee is paid, enrolment paperwork completed and you’ve been approved for CSQ funding:

  1. Skills Assessment will be undertaken
  2. At least 70% of the qualification competencies must fall under Recognition of Prior Learning. This includes up to 50% credit transfer from completed competencies.*
  3. Gap training will be provided for the remaining number of units to achieve the qualification.

*Please note: Eligibility for funding may be affected if less than 70% of the qualification cannot be demonstrated through recognition of prior learning.

Who is CSQ?

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent (non-government) industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices, trainees and career seekers in the building and construction industry.

Can an eligible participant complete more than one qualification under the SAGT program?

CSQ will subsidise 1 qualification in either the SAGT or Higher Qualifications program applicable to either building specific or civil specific Exception applies to eligible participants who are undertaking the Certificate III in Waterproofing.

Are apprentices and trainees eligible for the SAGT programme?

No apprentices and trainees are not eligible.
