What you’ll learn

This civil construction course is the accepted entry-level qualification required to work on Tier 1 and Tier 2 civil construction sites. It is aimed at anyone wanting to work in roles that support infrastructure projects or construction.

Ways to study

Recognition of Prior Learning

Your experience adds up and you can use this to fast-track your qualification.  If you’ve got a tonne of industry experience this can be used to gain part or all of your qual.

Onsite Training

We like to think this is a bit of a game changer! Learn onsite, while you work. This means less time off the tools and more time focused on practical skills.

Workbook

Sometimes we like to do it old-school! If you’re better on the tools than on a computer – we’ve got your back! At FTA, we’re determined to ensure you learn how you learn best.

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate competency in 8 core and 17 elective units. Here is an example of units that can be chosen to meet the packaging rules.

The course duration will vary depending on your experience, skills and chosen study mode. As a guide:

  • Apprenticeship: Between 12 – 36 months years depending on the type of apprenticeship and the apprentice’s ability
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): 3-6 months- this term may be extended by Funding Criteria, amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required  – eligibility criteria apply
  • CSQ: Program completion date is 20 September 2022 (for the Skills and Gap Training program 2021/22 Contract).
  • Fee for Service: 3-12 months subject to the amount of RPL awarded and subsequent Gap Training required

Your skills will be assessed through a mix of practical and theory tasks. Which is essentially showing us what you’ve learnt and how you do it.

Theory will be assessed via Workbook. Practical Assessment will be conducted at your place of work or worksite with fit for purpose facilities and equipment which are to be made available to your FTA trainer & Assessor for training and assessment purposes.
