Changes to the general construction course (QLD White Card) effective 1 February 2019

Amidst industry concerns for the quality of general construction induction courses, The Queensland State Government has introduced changes to the QLD White Card course delivery from 1 February 2019. Given the course is a requirement for anyone who works, or wants to work, in the construction industry, you need to be across these changes.

The CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry unit had already undergone extensive changes to assessment requirements in late 2016. Additional to this, the course will no longer be able to be delivered online (unless students are located 100kms from the nearest approved training organisation in QLD). Further changes include:

• Training organisations, in Queensland, will only be able to train students located within the state.
• Where a card is lost, stolen or destroyed and needs to be re-issued, the student must supply a statement of attainment for either the CPCCOHS1001A or CPCCWHS1001.

The new requirements will need students to attend a face to face workshop over the course of a day. While, the time spent off the tools could be costly, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is confident that this will improve the depth of understanding construction workers bring onsite.

Do you already have a QLD white card? Don’t worry, you can continue to use your existing one.
