If you are a builder or tradesperson, based in Queensland, chances are you’ll need a builder’s licence. The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is Queensland’s industry regulator for Building Licences.

While being compliant with building legislation is critical there are also a number of other benefits to obtaining a QLD Builder’s licence. For one, you will be able to quote for bigger and better jobs, meaning that you can increase cash flow and gain more and more clients.* So how do you apply for a builder’s licence and reap the benefits?

It’s quite a simple process!

Firstly, you will need to identify which licence class is relevant to your chosen field of work which you can find here. Once you have identified your choosen licence class and licence type, you’ll need to start the application process.

Here is a brief list of what you might need to provide prior to applying for your licence:

• Between 2-4 years’ experience in your chosen field
• Formal qualifications that are relevant to the licence you are applying for. Like a CPC40110 Certificate IV Building and Construction or CPC50210 Diploma of  Building and Construction (Building).
• Financial information to ensure that you meet the ‘minimum financial requirements’
• Written References
• Proof of Identity
• If contracting under a trading name – a current copy of your Record of Registration from Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC)
• If contracting under a partnership – proof of the business partnership.[i]
